Join Cascade Mountain School for our cooking focused day-camp! On this four-day camp in the bountiful Trout Lake Valley, we will spend our days learning and cooking with food-grower and educator Joel Whitmore. We will travel to huckleberry fields, dairy and produce farms in Trout Lake, and cook delicious locally-harvested snacks. Each student can expect to leave camp with new favorite meals they can cook at home.
The joy of good food will be enriched with foraging on nature hikes, feeding and learning about animals, cheese-making, and speaking with local producers and cooks. Students will explore wild and cultivated foods and have the chance to explore their palate with daily cooking endeavors.
Dates: 7/15-18; 7/29-8/1; 8/5-8 (independent sessions)
Time: 9 am to 3 pm

Location:Forest Campus, Mt. Adams Institute, Trout Lake, WA
Cost: $300 per student plus fee for optional transportation.
Optional Shuttle: There is optional transportation for students from Hood River, OR and Bingen, WA for an additional fee. The payment for the optional shuttle is $12.50/day or $50/week per student.
Farmer & Outdoor Educator
Joel found his passion for nature in weekly hikes with his family around Ithaca, NY. As the 5th of 7 children, he quickly jumped into the kitchen to help his Mom with the daunting task of keeping the family well fed. His mother inspired a lifelong love of food through cooking and gardening. Joel graduated with a BS and BA in International Politics and Development at SUNY Oneonta with a focus on the issues of global food insecurity and water access. An excitement to share his passions brought him to the Northwest to work as an outdoor educator focusing on the power of good food and farming.
